Incredibly Dangerous Activity is Now Completely Legal in Wisconsin

I once attempted to do this activity while driving, but it made me feel uneasy for some reason. I’m not sure why, but it does.

Perhaps it is related to the inability to hear sirens from emergency vehicles or the inability to hear other cars honking their horn. I’m not completely sure why I dislike doing this. If the speakers in your car are functioning properly, why would you choose to use headphones while driving? Just because it’s legal to wear headphones while driving doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

Wisconsin is one state that has not yet enforced a law against wearing headphones while driving, according to Pemberton Personal Injury Law Firm. Listening to music on your iPhone with headphones while driving is legal.

Why You Shouldn’t

I understand if you want to use your cell phone or listen to music while keeping both hands on the wheel. You may think that you are being safer by keeping both of your hands on the steering wheel. Wearing headphones while driving can make it difficult to hear what’s happening inside or outside of your vehicle.

What happens if there is an emergency vehicle near you and you are unable to see it? If you turn your headphones up really loud, it might be hard to hear someone. What happens if a car is honking to let drivers know about a problem on the road? You may not be able to see them honk their horn, and if you are wearing headphones, you might not be able to hear the horn.

What happens if there’s a problem with your car’s engine that you don’t notice and you continue driving it until it completely breaks down? If you find yourself in a difficult situation, you may have to wait for a long time, possibly hours or even days, until someone can come and help you. The amount of time you have to wait will depend on your location.

How can we ensure the safety of motorcyclists? Seeing someone riding a motorcycle can be challenging at times, but you can usually hear one nearby. If you are wearing headphones and they are blocking most of the sounds around you, there is a chance that you might accidentally bump into someone who is trying to enjoy a bike ride in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, if you’re driving a car and collide with a motorcycle rider, they are at a higher risk of sustaining serious injuries compared to you. I understand that you wouldn’t want to bear the responsibility for that.

Other States You Can Legally Wear Headphones

If you live in Wisconsin and go on a road trip in the Midwest, there are some states where wearing headphones is against the law. So, remember to remove them in those states. According to the Statesman, it is against the law in Minnesota and Illinois to wear headphones while driving.

If you are driving through the states of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, and North/South Dakota, it is legal for you to wear headphones if you want to. Just because you have the ability to do something, doesn’t mean you should do it. It’s important to use your eyes and ears to stay safe on the roads.
