Individual Fatally Struck by Amtrak Train in Kalamazoo, Police Investigate Incident

According to local authorities, an Amtrak train in Kalamazoo struck and fatally wounded a person this past Saturday. Just after half past noon, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety arrived on the scene of an emergency near the junction of W Main Street and the Elm Street crossover. The Amtrak train was traveling from Pontiac to Chicago, and WLNS stated that no injuries were recorded on board despite the presence of passengers.

W. Main Street was immediately closed inbound following the collision, which was a required step to allow for investigation and secure the area. As a result of this disturbance, drivers were encouraged to look for alternate routes, a precaution that officials stressed following the tragedy. This closure was highlighted by WOOD TV, who also warned of any prolonged difficulties.

Zach Hamelton, the KDPS Public Information Officer, stated that Amtrak police will take up the ongoing investigation. For the time being, there are few information available, and the local community awaits the results of an investigation meant to shed light on and make sense of an occurrence that is frequently too abrupt to readily absorb. “Amtrak police will take over the investigation,” Hamelton said, adding that they “will provide any further updates,” according to PerMLive.
