Interstate 10’s San Simon Rest Area in Southeastern Arizona Closed for Repainting

You may want to be aware of a planned shutdown if you intend to travel along Interstate 10 in southeast Arizona today. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that the San Simon Rest Area, which serves both sides of the highway, will be closed for repainting from 4 p.m. today afternoon until the same time tomorrow. The rest facility is at milepost 389, close to the New Mexico line.

ADOT recommends the Texas Canyon Rest Area as an alternate rest area for drivers whose trip requires a pause. It is still accessible to the public at mileposts 320-321, about 70 miles to the west. During this short break from the San Simon facility, local businesses are also ready to welcome weary passengers. As a well-traveled interstate experiences wear and tear, the restriping effort becomes part of the continuous maintenance.

Drivers looking for the most recent highway conditions are reminded by ADOT that information is easily available. For up-to-date information, visit ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information website at az511.gov or download the az511 app, which is compatible with both Android and Apple smartphones. Alternatively, you can get the information you need by calling 511 if you’d rather communicate more tactilely.
