Intoxicated Driver Slams Head-On Into Car on Long Island; Road; 2 Injured after Crash

LONG ISLAND, New Y. (DDN) – A driver under the influence collided head-on with another vehicle on Long Island Sunday, resulting in injuries to two individuals, as reported by authorities.

Giovannie Merisier, from West Babylon, was reportedly driving a red 2016 Nissan against traffic in the eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway close to exit 32 in Oyster Bay at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to authorities.

According to New York State Police, Merisier, accompanied by a passenger, ultimately collided head-on with a gray 2020 Toyota in the center lane close to the Baldwin Road exit (20S).

Authorities reported that the driver and passenger in the Toyota were extracted from the vehicle and sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.

The identities remained undisclosed on Monday. No details were provided regarding the passenger in the vehicle of the intoxicated driver.

Authorities reported that Merisier, 43, was taken into custody and faced charges of driving under the influence and reckless endangerment, receiving an appearance ticket in the process.

A preliminary court session is set for February 17.
