The Jacksonville Jaguars will once again be without their starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence when they head to Ford Field to face the Detroit Lions this Sunday. As reported by
Action News Jax
, Lawrence has been sidelined with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder, which also kept him out of last week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. “Trevor (Lawrence) will be out. We just decided this week. He’s getting close, but don’t want to put a player out there that’s not 100%–We’re going to rest him one more week,” Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson stated in today’s media availability.
Mac Jones, who stepped in as the Jaguars’ starting QB in Lawrence’s absence, is slated to continue to fill that role against the Lions. Last week, Jones completed 14 of 22 passes but threw two interceptions and was sacked thrice in the Jaguars’ offense that struggled to keep pace. In his own words obtained by
ESPN
, Jones recognized the need to improve, saying, “I need to get back to playing fundamental quarterback.” “And that’s just the simple things: Going through my reads, taking what the defense gives and leading the team down the field. So, I’m trying to focus on the now and the present, and that’s the best way to do it.”
Trevor Lawrence’s absence marks the third game he’s been unable to play since being drafted first overall in 2021. His performance this season has seen a completion rate of 61.3%, throwing for 2,004 yards and 11 touchdowns with six interceptions. This year, however, has been somewhat of a step forward for Lawrence, who has reduced his turnovers, as noted by
ESPN
, to seven, significantly less than his average of 20 in previous seasons.
Looking ahead, the Jaguars are eyeing a return for Lawrence after their Week 12 bye, as per Coach Pederson in a statement to
UPI
. They will look to regroup for a divisional clash against the Houston Texans come December. The Jaguars, currently at 2-8, are undoubtedly eager to see their franchise quarterback fully recover and hopefully help turn around a season that’s quickly slipping away.
