The Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court Judges, alongside various local welfare agencies, are all set to commemorate National Adoption and Foster Care Day with a celebratory event scheduled for November 18. The gathering, aiming to place five children in permanent homes, will take place at the Juvenile Justice Complex in Harvey, LA.
Judges Barron Burmaster, Amanda Calogero, and Jennifer Womble will oversee the proceedings, which highlight the ongoing efforts to provide stable environments for children in need. “To have a gentle, loving start is what children need for a stable foundation in relationships, education, and success in life,” said Judge Calogero, in a statement obtained by the

press release. The sentiment underscores the shared mission of the participating organizations, CASA Jefferson, the United Way of Southeast Louisiana, and the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), which collaborate to ensure the welfare of the parish’s children when they cannot remain with their biological parents.
The United Way of Southeast Louisiana has played a pivotal role by financially backing the upcoming event. Other supporters include the Adoption Services of Catholic Charities and Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana, all contributing to the day dedicated to celebrating adoptions and fostering opportunities for children awaiting a place to call home.
According to DCFS data, there are currently 4,396 foster children being served in the state, with Jefferson Parish finalizing 39 adoptions in the previous year. In the Greater New Orleans area alone, over 236 children are either awaiting reunification with family, or an adoptive placement, showcasing the critical need for such events and support.
