Following an altercation during the eviction process, a guy from Jenkinsburg, Georgia is now being charged with aggravated assault against law officials.Courtney Deonta Reeves, 30, was taken into custody after Butts County Sheriff’s Office deputies were assaulted while trying to serve him with an eviction notice, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Around 9:20 a.m. on Monday, deputies arrived at Reeves’ home on County Line Road, where the altercation took place. After Reeves allegedly snatched a machete and started attacking the officers on the scene, things quickly got out of hand. Consequently, two deputies were injured and sent to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, their status is stable and they are expected to fully recover.
Reeves was arrested after the altercation and brought to Butts County Jail. The GBI is dedicated to carrying out a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the events that preceded the tragedy, and the investigation is currently in progress. In situations involving violence and the use of force against law enforcement, this is typical practice. The objective is to make sure that all relevant information is acquired prior to the start of any legal action.
The GBI will submit its findings to the Towaliga Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office after the inquiry is over. After then, this office will thoroughly examine the case to decide on the best course of action and potential charges. After the review is finished and authorities have completely disclosed all relevant information pertaining to the case, court dates and any additional legal action will be notified when the time is right.
