The holiday season in Kannapolis has officially begun, with Santa Claus leaving the North Pole to light up the city’s Christmas tree at Village Park. As detailed in an announcement on thecity’s website, the lighting ceremony saw thousands of attendees and was commemorated with a fireworks display.

The festivities will proceed with the Celebration of Lights, featuring hundreds of thousands of lights across various displays in Village Park, set to run until December 30. In addition to the decorations, families can enjoy a ride on the Winterland Express trains, which offer views of holiday lighting displays, inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas. Reservations for the train can be made online, except for Fridays and Saturdays when tickets are available on a first-come, basis at the park. Tickets are $2 per person, according to thecity’s website.

Moreover, children of all ages can meet with Santa Claus every evening and capture the moment with personal photographs at no cost. Another returning favorite is Maestro Leonard Bearstein and his animatronic orchestra, providing entertainment with holiday music and playful banter inside Village Park’s Multi-Purpose Room. The entertainment extends to more music with the Chuckles Quartet located outside who will perform Christmas carols throughout the event.

Apart from the light shows and musical performances, the event also offers a Village Park Double Decker Carousel, decked with Brazilian oak, 1,800 lights, and Venetian murals. The carousel comes straight from Italy, adding a touch of international charm to the holiday experience in Kannapolis. Thecity’s statementmentioned, “Attendees will also be able to ride the Village Park Double Decker Carousel,” ensuring a joyous ride for all their visitors against the backdrop of holiday lights. Carousel tickets can be purchased onsite at $2 per person.

Throughout December, the Celebration of Lights will also feature performances from local choirs, a marketplace with area artisans, and a variety of food trucks to cater to different tastes. What’s more, admission to the park, viewing the lights, and the bear performances is free making it a cost-effective way for families and friends to celebrate the season.
