Kate Middleton Will Be ‘Away’ from Public for ‘Some Time’ During Cancer Battle: Report

Princess Kate Middleton will continue to take a break from public events as she fights against cancer. “Kate is going to be away from her public duties for a while,” reported the Times of London on Friday, May 3. They mentioned that Kate, who is 42 years old, might be interested in attending events later on “when she feels ready.”

The Princess of Wales had a surgery on her abdomen in January. During the surgery, doctors discovered cancerous tissue. Kate announced to the public that she had been diagnosed in March.

“My medical team recommended that I receive preventive chemotherapy, so I am currently in the early stages of that treatment,” Kate said in a video released through Kensington Palace on March 22. “This was a big surprise for us, and Prince William and I have been trying our best to deal with it privately for the sake of our young family.”

She said at that time, “I am doing well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body, and spirit.” Having William with me brings me a lot of comfort and reassurance. I am also grateful for the love, support, and kindness that many of you have shown.

Kate and William have three children: Prince George, who is 10 years old, Princess Charlotte, who is 9 years old, and Prince Louis, who is 6 years old. They chose to wait before telling their children about her diagnosis before making it public. In her video from March, Kate shared that she will start doing her public duties again once her doctors say it’s okay.

After Kate’s announcement, William took a short break from his responsibilities. He has gone back to work with the Times and is still doing his own public engagements while Kate recovers.

The Prince of Wales recently went to the opening of James’ Place Newcastle, a local center for helping men who are at risk of suicide, on Tuesday, April 30th. While they were walking, he briefly talked about Kate and their family.

“Everyone is doing well, thank you,” William told the onlookers. “Yes, we are doing well.”

William has been substituting for his father, King Charles III, in addition to his own public appearances. In February, the current ruler shared that he is receiving medical treatment for a type of cancer that has not been revealed.

Charles, who is 75 years old, had temporarily stopped his public responsibilities, except for a few meetings at Buckingham Palace and attending church services on weekends. On Tuesday, he had his first official event where he visited a cancer treatment center with his wife, Queen Camilla.
