Kidnapped Teen, 13, Found Safe in Detroit, Suspect in Critical Condition after Attempting Suicide when Caught

DETROIT, Mic. (DDN) – A teen who was kidnapped by a man and taken to a residence in Detroit on Monday has been reunited with their family. The individual, who was 13 years old at the time, was reunited with their family.

The teenager from Garden City was reportedly friended on social media by a man in his forties, as reported by the Detroit police department. This resulted in the two individuals meeting one another in person.

Whether the 13-year-old is a boy or a girl was not specified by the Detroit police department.

On February 24, 2025, the man is said to have taken the teenager to a residence located in the 6700 block of Penrod Street in the city of Detroit. There, the 13-year-old made touch with a member of his family, who subsequently made contact with the authorities.

After the officers arrived at the residence on Penrod Street, the man fled into a room in the back of the home and murdered himself. After being transported to a nearby hospital, he is still in a critical condition.

The 13-year-old has been reunited with their family, according to the police, who stated that they are safe.
