Kirby Moynagh Elected Wright County Commissioner, Focuses on Future of Young Families

Kirby Moynagh won the Wright County Commissioner seat in the Nov. 5 general election, earning 6,824 votes (56.4%), surpassing his opponent Bill Nibbe’s 5,147 votes (42.5%). This victory grants Moynagh the seat previously held by Commissioner Mike Kaczmarek, as confirmed by aWright County press release.

Moynagh shared his excitement about joining the county board,saying, “I’m glad to be coming on the county board. It will be a big change, but I think I’m up for it.” His political journey began with the Montrose City Council and later as mayor, where he built relationships with county officials, including commissioners and the county sheriff. This established rapport is expected to ease his transition into his new role. Despite his youth, Moynagh brings a fresh perspective, focusing on addressing the challenges that younger families face in Wright County.

Moynagh’s political ambitions have been a long time in the making.He recalled, “When I was 13, I was hanging out at a neighbor’s house talking and the neighbor s Dad said, ‘Wow! You re a future senator of Minnesota,'” a comment that fueled his passion for local politics.

With over 14 years in Wright County, Moynagh is deeply embedded in the community. He has also managed a residential group home for teenage boys for more than 11 years. “I’ve got young kids from a 14-year-old to a 16-month-old,”Moynagh said, expressing his desire to shape the county into a place that offers a better future for his children and others. This vision has been a key driver of his public service.

Moynagh enters the commissioner role with invaluable experience and mentorship from past District 5 commissioners Charlie Borrell and Kaczmarek. “I know I have some big shoes to fill,”Moynagh acknowledged, emphasizing his determination to honor the legacy of his predecessors while making his mark on the district.
