Last week, at Kissimmee’s SENSES Park, a 5-year-old boy with autism tragically drowned in a nearby body of water. The event was confirmed today by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. When the youngster vanished, he was playing with his family. According to WESH, his father, who was then preoccupied with another child, claimed he only lost sight of the 5-year-old for a brief moment before to the disappearance.
On November 13, deputies were dispatched promptly to the location and began a search. Officers were able to swiftly determine the child’s path from the park by using a bloodhound K9 to trace them down. According to a statement obtained by Around Osceola, the child was discovered in the water and, despite the prompt response, was pronounced dead after being taken to Nemours Children’s Hospital.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responds to these incidents by promoting the Project Lifesaver initiative, which aims to avert tragedies of this nature. In order to enable a more focused search for missing people, the initiative equips participants with a personal transmitter device that can be worn like a smartwatch. In a recent announcement, the sheriff’s office encouraged families interested in this program to visit the sheriff’s official website for additional information.
