Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn has amassed a total of 2,052 firearms through a series of gun buyback events since May 2022. In a report disclosed earlier today, the initiative’s latest effort in Torrance added 256 more guns to the tally. “Today in closets and bedrooms across LA County there are 2,000 fewer guns that can be found by a child, accidentally discharged, or stolen and used to kill in a crime. That makes all of the work we’ve done to bring these buybacks to our residents worth it,”Hahn stated, underlining the project’s aim to increase local safety.
The Torrance gun buyback, organized with the Torrance Police Department, saw a variety of firearms being turned in, including ghost guns and assault weapons. Constituents walked away with gift cards in exchange for surrendering weapons, such as 89 pistols and 88 rifles, amongst other arms. According to the provided information, these events have been consistently anonymous, with the assurance that the surrendered items would be destroyed.
Past buybacks orchestrated by Supervisor Hahn took place in various locations including Lynwood, North Long Beach, and Norwalk, signifying a wide-reaching effort to reduce the potential for gun-related incidents. On Saturday, participants were offered a no-questions-asked policy that ensured their anonymity and encouraged their participation in the event, engaging a dialogue of community safety over firearm possession.
Photos and video content of the Long Beach buyback, plus other Hahn’s events, showcase the public’s participation and the collection of firearms in operation. With shots of tables laid with an array of guns surrendered by residents, these images spell out a narrative of proactive community engagement. Footagefrom one of these events held in Long Beachcan be seen, providing a glimpse into the buyback process and the variety of firearms collected.
