Outdoor enthusiasts and weekend hikers alike can once again traverse the trail to the lower falls at Lacamas Regional Park, which has been off-limits since the start of the year. The closure, a necessary precaution due to significant structural concerns with the bridge that marks passage along the trail, has ended, restoring full accessibility to the park’s scenic attraction.
An assessment conducted during the previous winter revealed that the aging bridge posed an unacceptable risk, prompting a shutdown. At the same time, park staff tackled the regulatory maze required to address such an issue in a stream-laden forest area, pursuing necessary environmental permits that meant a months-long interruption of access. The original bridge, no longer safe for public use, was entirely removed, making way for a newly constructed replacement featuring weather-resistant materials designed to ensure longevity and enhance visitor safety; this new bridge was erected despite the trail being dearly missed by park visitors all this time.
Committed to maintaining and improving park infrastructure, the Public Works has managed to successfully navigate the permitting process and complete the project, streamlining this natural sanctuary’s continuing allure to nature lovers and habitual joggers alike.
