According to a recall issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, Massachusetts-based HP Hood LLC has recalled Lactaid, a brand of lactose-free dairy milk, in 27 states because the product may contain trace amounts of almonds that are not specified on the label.
According to the FDA, consuming the items might potentially cause serious or fatal allergic responses in those who have a severe sensitivity to or allergy to almonds.
The following states received the 96-ounce Lactaid Milk containers in shipping: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
The shipments took place between September 5 and September 18, 2008.
Applying to a restricted quantity of Lactaid Milk in plastic containers bearing the code 51-4109 P2 together with particular “best by dates,” these products are available on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website.
According to the FDA, the problem was found as a consequence of “routine maintenance programs” that indicated the possibility of almond traces.
There have been no documented illnesses.

Customers who purchased the product have the option to call Hood Consumer Affairs at 1-800-242-2423 or return it to the retail store where the transaction was made for a complete refund or exchange.
