Lakewood to Honor Veterans with Ceremonial Tribute and Community Gathering on November 11

The City of Lakewood is setting the stage at Lakewood Park for its annual salute to American service members this Veterans Day. On the morning of November 11, at 11:00 a.m., the community will come together at the Veterans Memorial, located at 14532 Lake Avenue, to pay homage to the courage and sacrifice of its veterans.

The public ceremony promises a traditional display of respect with the Presentation of Colors and the National Anthem, performed by the Wild Pitch Quartet. To ensure that the memory of bravery is kept alive, United States Marine Corps veteran and community figure Donald Stark will deliver this year’s keynote address. Stark, not only a veteran but also a publisher of the DD214 Chronicle and an advocate for veteran’s issues through various boards and charitable works, has deep-rooted connections to Lakewood, as he grew up in the city with his family.

Lakewood’s observance continues to integrate local talent with performances by the Lakewood High School Band, bringing an element of collective community spirit to the somber reflections of the day. A poignant rifle salute by the Joint Veterans Honor Guard will render, in reverberating echoes, the gratitude owed to those who have donned the nation’s uniform.

The Veterans Day Ceremony, free for all attendees, concludes with a nod to hospitality and camaraderie. Coffee and doughnuts will be served at the Woman’s Club Pavilion. The gesture extends a warm invitation to share in conversation and fellowship amidst the freshly brewed aromas and the tender simplicity of doughnuts following the formalities of remembrance.
