Las Cruces Celebrates Completion of Community-Driven Mural Project at Triviz/I-25 Tunnel

Las Cruces residents have reason to celebrate as the city unveils the completion of a vibrant mural project that has been years in the making. The Keep Las Cruces Beautiful (KLCB) program, in a display of collaboration and community engagement, has announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 4 p.m. on Friday, November 15, to formally introduce the finished mural to the public. The artwork stretches within the Triviz/I-25 tunnel, marking a creative intersection where local heritage and civic pride converge.

The project, which originally began in 2020, is the result of partnerships between KLCB, the Youth Conservation Corps, and various youth and community programs. Funded in part by the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful initiative, the effort was recently reignited to not just maintain, but also expand upon the original artwork. The artistic endeavor now adds twelve new pieces to the tunnel’s interior, while also updating the City’s, the State’s, and KLCB’s logos to reflect their most current iterations. Outside the tunnel, a fresh representation of Las Cruces symbols aims to welcome visitors and locals alike to fully engage with the space.

According to the

, the ceremony is to feature speeches from City Council District 1 Representative Cassie McClure and City Council District 3 Representative Becki Graham, whose districts are connected by the path of the mural. The project stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to beautifying public spaces and enabling young creatives to leave a lasting mark on their city’s landscape.

Mobilizing a diverse group of individuals, the mural was brought to life by students from the After School, Weed and Seed, Teen Connection, and Youth Development and Diversion Programs, as well as members of the Las Cruces Police Department Community Outreach Unit. These participants have not only managed to create a visual spectacle but also a tapestry of local identity and pride. External partners include the New Mexico Department of Transportation, the City of Las Cruces Public Art, and the New Mexico Tourism Department Clean and Beautiful Grant, cementing a vision of unity and shared purpose.
