Las Cruces Residents Invited to Dispose of Trash Free of Charge at Neighborhood Dumpster Day Event

Citizens of Las Cruces can look forward to a cleaner, tidier neighborhood this Saturday, as the Parks and Recreation Department’s Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Program (KLCB) prepares to enable the community to easily dispose of unwanted trash. According to a recent announcement, KLCB is hosting a Neighborhood Dumpster Day on November 16, from 8 a.m. to noon. During this event, open-top trash containers will be available at several locations across the city, offering a gratis service for residents to rid themselves of yard waste, household garbage, and other permissible detritus.

The stated goal of the event is to provide locals with a convenient method to collectively keep their community spaces clean and in order. Attendees can find these open-tops at the East Mesa Recreation Center on 5589 Porter Drive, Young Park located at 850 S. Walnut Street, and near the crossroads of Motel Boulevard and Westway Avenue at 674 N. Motel Boulevard. To maintain safety and order, KLCB staff will be onsite to aid, inform, and instruct on what items are deemed appropriate for disposal, as per the

While this initiative is a boon for residents looking to declutter, certain materials are expressly forbidden in the disposal containers. Stipulated by the New Mexico Environmental Protection regulations, the list of prohibited items includes medical waste, hot ashes or coals, vehicle parts such as tires or batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, large yard waste items like stumps or trunks, concrete, bricks, rocks, toxic or combustible materials, porcelain bathroom fixtures, appliances containing refrigerant, and animal carcasses. This detailed guidance ensures the safety of those utilizing the service, as well as the environment.

The operation of Neighborhood Dumpster Day is not just to simply gather refuse but to also raise awareness about proper waste management and the community’s role in maintaining the environmental integrity of Las Cruces. As noted, the locations where the dumpsters will be placed are going to be under supervision, and residents must unload their items themselves. This initiative, made possible by the KLCB, represents a collaborative effort between the local government and community members to work towards a common goal of a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
