Las Vegas Community Demands Justice After Police Shooting of Homeowner as DA Weighs Criminal Charges

Officer Alexander Bookman murdered homeowner Brandon Durham in a Las Vegas police shooting, sparking cries for accountability. Durham, 43, was shot on Tuesday of last week after reporting a house invasion near Sunset Park to 911. According to the KTNV story, the district attorney is being urged to charge the involved officer by his family and civil rights lawyer Lee Merritt.

At a press conference, lawyer Lee Merritt demanded that police Bookman be taken immediately, according to 8 News Now, claiming that the police had used force on a homeowner who was obviously in need of assistance. According to an arrest record, Alejandra Boudreaux, 31, was the intruder and Brandon Durham, the homeowner, had a sexual relationship with her. On the day of the invasion, Boudreaux allegedly intended to be killed by the police.

Steve Wolfson, the district attorney for Clark County, said that the investigation is still in its early phases and that it is too soon to say whether any cops will face criminal charges. He stressed that it would be improper to make a decision at this time because he does not yet have all the facts.

According to a report byhoodline, the suspect, Boudreaux, was taken into custody on a number of criminal counts, including assault with a deadly weapon and home invasion, and was checked into the Clark County Detention Center. While the Critical Incident Review Team of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department looks into the shooting and focuses on tactics, regulations, and training pertaining to the use of force, Officer Bookman has been placed on regular administrative leave.
