Las Vegas Family Seeks Justice for Brandon Durham, Real Estate Agent Fatally Shot by Police During Home Invasion

Concerns over the police response and the circumstances surrounding the murder of Brandon Durham, a 43-year-old man shot dead by a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer during a home invasion, have been voiced by his family. They are pursuing justice and investigating the conduct of law officers that evening, according to News 3 Las Vegas.

According to family members, Brandon Durham was a devoted family man, cook, and real estate agent. When LVMPD officers, including Officer Alexander Bookman, responded to a reported gunshot at his residence early Tuesday, he was shot many times. Alejandra Boudreaux and Durham are seen fighting over a knife on bodycam footage. Durham was shot and later declared dead with a bullet wound to the head, despite cries for him to drop the firearm.

Durham’s family and the community at large have been deeply affected by the incident, which is now officially the 13th Metro police shooting in 2024. Rachael Gore, Durham’s registered domestic partner, responded to what she believes to be a racist act at a news conference by asking, “What are you looking at? News 3 Las Vegas said, “You’re looking at the color of the skin, not the colors of the clothes, and that’s why he’s dead.” Isabella, his 15-year-old daughter, locked herself in her room throughout the break-in and expressed her shock and rage at the way the police handled her father, whom she maintains was the victim in this case.

Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren defended the officer’s lethal response in just a few seconds, citing the need for fast decision-making in high-stakes scenarios in a different story by FOX5 Vegas. Durham’s old acquaintance and intruder, Boudreaux, has been charged with domestic violence, home invasion, child abuse and neglect, and contempt for a person’s protection that results in death. On Monday, she is expected to appear in court.
