Lenox Man Sentenced to Prison for Attempting to Send Obscene Material to a Minor

A Lenox man was handed a 14-month prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release for crimes related to child exploitation, federal prosecutors announced. Paul J. Bruzzi, 37, pleaded guilty back in July to attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor, but the so-called minor was, in fact, an undercover federal investigator.

TheUnited States Attorney’s Officereports that the FBI initiated the case when Bruzzi used social media platforms starting in September 2022 to engage with someone he believed to be a young girl. From his misguided solicitation, emerged a series of lewd correspondences wherein Bruzzi pressured the presumed child into photographical reciprocation, while sending nine explicit images and videos of himself.

The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni, marking the conclusion of a case that was brought to light through collaboration between the FBI Boston Division, under Special Agent in Charge Jodi Cohen, and local law enforcement from Salisbury and Winchester, Massachusetts. Assistant U.S. Attorney Neil L. Desroches led the prosecution.

During the investigation, and eventual prosecution, efforts to shield our children from such predatory actions were commended by authorities. “We have an obligation to protect the most vulnerable members of our society from those who use the internet as a weapon,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy, “We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute individuals who prey on children,” as per theUnited States Attorney’s Office.
