Method to Determine the Most Dangerous Cities in Oklahoma

Every year, the FBI releases two crime datasets on cities in Oklahoma. First, there will be a preliminary dataset that includes only the largest cities in Oklahoma. Then, at the end of the year, a more detailed release will be made available.

We analysed the data from the 2022 Crime In The United States Report for Oklahoma to conduct our analysis.

What criteria did we use? Take a look:

  • Violent Crimes Per Capita
  • Property Crimes Per Capita

To ensure a fair comparison, we only looked at cities in Oklahoma with a population of over 5,000. We were left with 74 cities in Oklahoma.

We ranked each city from 1 to 74 based on two criteria. A #1 ranking indicates that the city is the most dangerous for that specific criteria. Afterwards, we combined the two rankings to create a single “Dangerous Index”.

After evaluating all the cities in Oklahoma, we determined their level of danger using the “Dangerous Index”. Tulsa was found to have the lowest index, indicating that it is the most dangerous city in the state. If there were any ties, they were awarded to the smaller city.
