Lewisville Youth Engage with First Responders to Strengthen Community Bonds

A recent event organized by the Lewisville Police Department gave young people in the area a chance to have open conversations with the city’s first responders. “The Youth Action Council had the opportunity to meet and interact with police officers, firefighters, and the renowned K9 Dero at an event designed to foster community connections and provide insight into the world of emergency services,” the Lewisville Police Department said on social media.

A hands-on understanding of the tools and equipment needed to manage safety and respond to emergencies within their community was provided to attendees during the meeting through an immersive experience that included touring police cruisers and fire trucks. In addition to being instructive, the examination of sirens and hoses provided a practical means of understanding the scope of the labor performed by these unsung heroes. K9 Dero and his handler, Officer Williams, demonstrated to the young guests the importance of the K9 unit in police operations, helping with anything from tracking to protecting other officers.
