Three Tuscarawas Valley High School students were among the six people killed in a terrible incident that occurred on Interstate 70 in Licking County a year ago. Numerous ceremonies are held in remembrance of the victims as the community continues to be shaken by the impact.
John Mosley, 18, Jeffrey Worrell, 18, and Katelyn Owens, 15, as well as three adults, were killed when a charter bus carrying the high school band to a performance was hit from behind on November 14, 2023, according to WKYC. Jacob McDonald, 60, of Zanesville, was driving the tractor-trailer that caused the collision. He is currently facing 26 charges, including six counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, according to FOX8.
As reported by News 5 Cleveland, on November 17, the school system held the Stand with the Band Memorial Walk and Run as a way to honor each of the lives lost and to show solidarity. The six-hour program focused on the six people whose memories still have an impact on the community.
Superintendent Derek Veransky conveyed the district’s sincere appreciation for the tremendous amount of support that was shown following the tragedy. “Your love, kindness, and unwavering support of our district will never be forgotten,” Veransky told FOX 8. Over $1 million has been raised for the Trojan Foundation in an attempt to leave a lasting legacy, offering immediate support to the impacted families and establishing scholarships in memory of the victims.
