With an average viewership of 17.29 million, Detroit’s 34-31 comeback triumph over Green Bay last Thursday night became the most-streamed NFL regular-season game ever and the most-watched game on Amazon Prime Video since the streaming service alone took over the prime-time package in 2022.
The audience reached a record high of 18.87 million viewers during the first half (9:15-9:30 p.m. EST), according to Nielsen.
The previous record for “Thursday Night Football on Prime” was 16.23 million, which was set on September 26th when the Dallas Cowboys defeated the New York Giants 20–15.
With 12 games played, “Thursday Night Football on Prime” has an average viewership of 13.61 million, up 9% from the previous year and 15% from the previous season’s full-season average of 11.86 million.
The Lions secured a postseason berth for the second year in a row with their victory on Thursday. With 11 consecutive victories, including two against the Packers, the team set a franchise record in the fiercely competitive NFC North.
When they were tied 31-31, head coach Dan Campbell made the split decision to try for it on fourth down, and it worked. Kicker Jake Bates was able to make his third game-winning kick of the season after running back David Montgomery rushed for seven yards.
The Lions are now the top seed in the NFC North with a 12-1 record. The Kansas City Chiefs are the only other NFL club with a 12-1 record.
On Sunday, December 15, Detroit will play the Buffalo Bills (10-3). The game will start at 4:25 p.m.
