Lions snap Thanksgiving losing streak, hold off Bears for 23-20 victory

The Detroit Lions defeated the Chicago Bears 23–20 on Thursday to extend their winning streak to ten games. Jared Goff delivered two touchdown passes to Sam LaPorta, while Jake Bates hit three field goals in the first half.

On Thanksgiving, the Lions ended a seven-game losing streak.

Late in the game, the Bears got the ball in Lions territory and had the chance to drive for a score or a field goal that would have tied the game, but they wasted the opportunity.

Even though Chicago had one more timeout, time ran out after Caleb Williams, who had been sacked with roughly 30 seconds remaining, fired an incomplete throw from the Detroit 41 as time expired.

With a 10-game winning run that ties a franchise record with the 1934 team, the NFC-leading Lions (11-1) have their best record after 12 games in team history.

The Bears (4-8) have suffered six consecutive defeats.

Caleb Williams, the quarterback, led a rally that failed for the second consecutive week as Detroit led 16-0 at the half and 23-7 after three quarters. Before losing in OT, Williams assisted the Bears in overcoming an 11-point deficit against Minnesota in the last 22 seconds of regulation.

Goff’s 3-yard touchdown pass to LaPorta in the second quarter and Bates’ field goals put Detroit ahead 16-0 after four consecutive scoring drives to start the game.

Chicago, on the other hand, gained 32 yards overall on its first four drives and was unable to secure a first down.

Late in the third quarter, Detroit took a 23-7 lead thanks to Goff’s second touchdown ball to LaPorta, a one-yard toss. Jameson Williams’ 15-yard reverse, which had him hurdling Kevin Byard to gain many more yards, set up the score.

The first overall choice in the draft, Caleb Williams, was 20 of 39 for 256 yards, including two touchdown passes to DJ Moore and one to Keenan Allen.

During a run in the third quarter, Williams appeared to commit his first rookie error of the game by lifting up rather than going out of bounds, and he was struck low by defender Jack Campbell.

The former USC standout bounced back and delivered a touchdown throw to Allen from 31 yards out on the following snap. William threw a 9-yard pass to Allen, who connected with him for another score.

On a drive that was halted by Jameson Williams’ 15-yard penalty for throwing the football at a Bears player on the sideline, Detroit had an opportunity to increase its lead, but Bates missed a 45-yard kick after beginning his NFL career 19 of 19 on field goals.

With 5:36 left, Caleb Williams capitalized by delivering a touchdown pass to Moore that was 31 yards long, bringing the score within three points.
