We used Saturday Night Science to analyze the most recent Census data from Wyoming. Our goal was to find the cities in Wyoming with the highest percentage of Black residents. These are the findings from our analysis:

  • The city with the largest African American population in Wyoming is Cheyenne based on the most recent Census data.
  • Cheyenne is 2.58% Black.
  • The least African American city in Wyoming is Green River.
  • Green River is 0.0% Black.
  • Wyoming is 0.8% Black.

The Black community has been growing rapidly in America over the past decade. There are about 42 million people in the United States who identify as Black or African American. They make up 12% of the total population. Based on the latest American Community Survey, there are 4,488 Black people in Wyoming, which makes up 0.8% of the total population.

The percentage growth of Black people in America is the third highest among all races, according to the Census’s race and ethnicity definition. Many experts and researchers believe that having more diversity in America is beneficial.

Method to Find Wyoming With The Largest Black Population For 2024

We continue to have confidence in the reliability of data, particularly from the Census. That’s where we went to find out the racial breakdown in Wyoming. The most recent data available is from the 2018-2022 American Community Survey conducted by the US Census.

We specifically examined table B03002, which provides information on Hispanic or Latino origin by race. These are the names of the categories defined by the Census:

  • Hispanic or Latino
  • White alone*
  • Black or African American alone*
  • American Indian and Alaska Native alone*
  • Asian alone*
  • Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander alone*
  • Some other race alone*
  • Two or more races*

The specific column we were interested in was the count of individuals who identified themselves as Black or African American. We focused our analysis on cities in Wyoming that have a population of more than 6,000 people, excluding CDPs. We were left with 16 cities. We calculated the percentage of residents who identify as Black or African American. The percentages ranged from 2.6% to 0.0%.

The most African American cities in Wyoming for 2024 are Cheyenne and Rawlins, according to recent Census data. The Black community in the US has been growing rapidly, with about 42 million people identifying as Black or African American. Wyoming has the highest percentage of Black residents at 0.8%.
