Los Angeles Port Breaks Records Under Mayor Karen Bass, Maintains Busiest Port Status for 24th Year

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced that the Port of L.A. experienced a record-breaking September, with cargo volumes surpassing all previous records, thus maintaining its position as the busiest port in the country for the 24th consecutive year, according to the mayor’s official statement.

“The nation’s busiest port had another record-setting month – moving our economy forward while continuing our efforts to build a greener L.A.,” said Mayor Bass in the statement. She expressed gratitude towards the ILWU members for their dedication to keeping the port operational and acknowledged the Biden-Harris Administration and EPA Administrator Michael Regan for their contributions to these accomplishments, while also congratulating Port of L.A. Executive Director Gene Seroka for his role.

Last month, the Mayor escorted EPA Administrator Michael Regan through Watts in an ongoing effort to combat environmental injustices, she continued this initiative by also accompanying him in San Pedro back in March where they discussed federal investments intended to support zero-emission port equipment and infrastructure, air quality planning projects, and improved protection measures for communities surrounding ports, this reflects Mayor Bass’s broader vision of steering Los Angeles towards a more sustainable future, the Office of the Mayor noted.
