Lower chances of rain moving in starting Wednesday

Tuesday, heavy showers and storms fell across parts of New Mexico. Drier and hotter weather will arrive every day until Saturday.

Several showers and storms appeared across New Mexico Tuesday afternoon. Some of the storms today have brought heavy, flooding rains. Around 6:30 p.m., Albuquerque received heavy rain. Rain fell on the Ruidoso burn scars tonight, causing flash flooding. Flash flood warnings remain in effect for the Ruidoso area until 11:15 p.m. Scattered showers and storms will continue through the night, but will clear by early tomorrow morning.

Drier weather will move into the state on Wednesday. Isolated showers and storms will continue to develop in the afternoon, but they will be less frequent than what we are seeing today. Temperatures will also be higher. This trend will continue through the end of the week, with drier and hotter weather across the state. Rain is most likely to fall over the northern mountains and northeastern New Mexico.

Saturday will be the driest day, with storms mostly confined to northern New Mexico’s mountains. High temperatures will reach the mid and upper 90s across most of New Mexico, with triple digits in the state’s south.

Rain is expected to return to more of New Mexico. Sunday, another north-south oriented plume of monsoon moisture forms across the state. Rain chances will increase early next week.
