DDN – On December 19th, David Shutt was conducting errands when an Uber driver collided with his car on Hall Road in Macomb Township, according to police.
Shutt, 55, was critically injured in the incident and died on Thursday at an outlying hospital, two weeks later. The Uber driver and his passenger sustained minor injuries, but the third driver was unharmed.
“He was a good man, he was helpful, and he was always there when you needed him,” said Shutt’s daughter, Jessica Hartman.
David Shutt was lovingly referred to as “Fuzzy.”
“My dad has a big, bushy mustache – always has – and we were trying to differentiate between him and my brother, who had the same name,” Hartman told me.
The Macomb County man only had one grandchild, a son called Zach. Hartman remembers telling her father she was pregnant more than a decade ago.
“He came back to me the next day (saying) ‘We’ve decided we want to be called ‘Grandma Bear’ and ‘Grandpa Fuzzy’ and that was the end of it,” according to her. “The minute he picked him up my kid when he was born, it as game over – a puddle of mush, a puddle of love.”
While Shutt’s family grieves, they are also figuring out how to pay for his funeral. A GoFundMe page has been put up to accept donations.
“He preferred to work behind the scenes; he was a very genuine person. “So if he helped you, he didn’t want anyone to make a big deal about it,” Hartman explained. “He was very dearly loved and it was clear in his own Fuzzy way, that he loved us all back.”
