Main Defendant in Utah Drug Trafficking Operation Sentenced to 53 Months in Prison

Pedro De Jesus Figueroa-Roman, a 20-year-old implicated in a significant drug trafficking ring, has been sentenced to more than four years in prison. According to

U.S. Department of Justice

, Figueroa-Roman will serve 53 months behind bars followed by three years of supervised release. His sentence comes after a guilty plea to possession of some 14,000 fentanyl pills with the intention of distribution.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge David Barlow. This case has already seen Figueroa-Roman’s co-defendant, Juan Robles-Ramos, plead guilty earlier this year to possession of heroin with intent to distribute it. Robles-Ramos received a 42-month sentence in July. Court documents reveal that starting in July 2023, Figueroa-Roman had been distributing narcotics linked to a Mexican drug trafficking organization. An undercover officer purchased 472 grams of methamphetamine from him within a month of the operation beginning.

Robles-Ramos was implicated in the drug operation as well, having been involved in a controlled narcotics purchase arranged by law enforcement two months after Figueroa-Roman’s first sale. The operation culminated in a search of the Clearfield, Utah residence the defendants were staying at, which uncovered the fentanyl pills, along with heroin and cash. The significant seizure on October 5, 2023, was part of a larger crackdown conducted by the FBI Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force in collaboration with Davis Metro Narcotics Strike Force.

The announcement of the sentence was made by United States Attorney Trina A. Higgins of the District of Utah. Her office is responsible for prosecuting federal criminal offenses and representing the U.S. government’s interest in civil matters. Law enforcement’s involvement in the drug trafficking case encompassed both undercover operations and the final raid resulting in the defendants’ arrests and subsequent charges.
