WARREN, Mich. (DDN) – Following a Warren Police chase that injured an officer and an innocent bystander, a man is now in jail and faces charges.
On Thursday, Michael Brooks, 33, of Eastpointe, was arrested for allegedly escaping a traffic stop and blowing a red light at Eight Mile and Mound, colliding with two automobiles, one of which was driven by Michael Lamar.
The police officer leading the pursuit was involved in a subsequent uninvolved crash just north of 8 Mile. Warren Fire extricated him from the vehicle and took him to a neighboring hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
The 33-year-old suspect, who was detained at the site, was driving his 12-year-old daughter in the Cadillac sedan at the time of the chase. She was transported to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Ironically, Brooks was driving a car with the plate “Best Dad.”

The drivers of the two vehicles hit by the suspect at the intersection were uninjured.
Police say Brook has a significant criminal past and was charged with:
- Fleeing and eluding 2nd degree,
- 3rd degree child abuse,
- Driving with a suspended license causing serious injury
- License plate forgery.
Meanwhile, authorities say Brooks has prior felony convictions for synthetic narcotics possession, running and evading, firearm possession, and methamphetamine or ecstasy possession.
Scott Riney claims he used to live close Brooks and had his own run-ins throughout the years.
“We ride the little Mini Motos and I’ve had to deal with him on rides and stuff like that and he’s always runs at the mouth and stuff,” he said.
The pursuit began at 11:52 a.m. when a Warren police officer attempted to stop a silver Cadillac car near I-696 and Dequindre for an incorrect license plate.
Police say the driver went southbound on Mound Road at Eight Mile, where he ran a red light and collided with two other vehicles. The pursuing police crashed just north of the location.
Members of the Warren Police Department, Center Line, Hazel Park, and Michigan State Police Departments escorted the ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Warren police say the officer’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening right now. He’s been with the Warren Police Department for three and a half years.
