Following a devastating incident on the 6800 block of Katy Freeway that claimed the lives of two people early yesterday morning, a 23-year-old male has been placed under arrest. Omar Jose Alvarado is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter for his involvement in the event that happened at approximately 3:05 a.m. on November 22, according to a news statement from the City of Houston.
According to investigators, a Harris County Precinct 5 Constable officer was involved in traffic control on a construction site when her car was hit from behind. On collision, the white Chevrolet Impala, which was parked in the far right lane and had its emergency light bar turned on, exploded into flames, shielding the construction workers. The young family member and the deputy were both declared dead at the scene of the wreck.
Officer N. Duval and Sergeant E. Fendia of the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division have determined that Alvarado, who was operating a gray Mazda 3 at the time, had been under the influence of alcohol. This crucial information surfaced in the wake of the catastrophe, raising the possibility that this traumatic incident might have been prevented. A 25-year-old female passenger in the Mazda was also hurt in the crash; she is presently being treated at a nearby hospital for what are thought to be non-critical injuries.
Alvarado was hurt in the collision himself, but as part of the current proceedings related to the allegations against him, he will be sent to the Harris County Jail until he is discharged from the hospital. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is still seeking confirmation of the victims’ identities.
