A physical confrontation on a CTA Red Line train on the Near North Side escalated Wednesday afternoon, resulting in a man sustaining a cut on his head, as reported by
the Chicago Sun-Times
. The incident occurred in the 800 block of North State Street, near the Chicago Avenue station, around 2:40 p.m.
According to
ABC7 Chicago
, the conflict involved a 58-year-old man and a woman. A verbal argument on the train turned violent when the woman drew a sharp object, and struck the man on his head. In the wake of the altercation, the woman reportedly fled the scene heading south on Wabash Avenue, leaving the man injured behind her.
The victim was promptly attended to and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. There, he was listed in good condition despite the wound sustained during the incident. Area 3 detectives are charged with the investigation of the event, which led to Red Line trains bypassing the Chicago Avenue station for approximately two hours following the disturbance, creating a ripple of delay for commuters.
Service disruptions continued briefly as the 95th-bound Red Line train was delayed while police examined the scene, Chicago Fire Department officials said. CTA officials facilitated the detouring of passengers onto buses as train service was paused. Normal service resumed shortly after the area was cleared.
The Chicago police’s pursuit of leads continues, but no further information on the suspect or the motive behind the attack has been made public at this time.
