Man killed, woman injured in shooting during meet up to buy skates at Detroit gas station, police say


DETROIT – Police said a 33-year-old man was killed Wednesday night after he and a 41-year-old woman were shot at a gas station in Detroit.

There was a heavy police presence along Woodward Avenue from Seven Mile to Eight Mile. Detroit police captain Vernal Newson said the couple met a man at a BP gas station on the corner of West Seven Mile Road and Woodward Avenue.

“A couple met up with a person from an online store and met to buy ice skates. During the transaction, the perpetrator made a gun and opened fire on both people, ”Newson said.

The suspect shot the couple’s car multiple times. The rear window was broken and the male victim died on the scene. The 41-year-old female victim is in hospital.

Police said the suspect escaped the area and drove Woodward down Eight Mile Road.

“A witness stopped officers from the transit center and they followed the person,” Newson said.

Then the suspect got out of his car and ran to a Meijer grocery store. Newson said one person was later taken into custody.
