Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for the Fatal Assault of Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello at Batavia Downs Casino

A man has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for the death of Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello, a Genesee County sheriff officer.

Michael Elmore, 33, pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter and obstructing governmental administration in November for his acts at the Batavia Downs casino. His sentence on Tuesday included five years of probation.

Batavia Police claim that in March, Sgt. Sanfratello escorted Elmore and 39-year-old Lyndsey Jean Wilcox out of Batavia Downs for causing the disturbance. Officers claim Elmore returned with a metal chain and assaulted Sgt.

Sanfratello on the head. Officers reportedly claim Wilcox assaulted Sgt. Sanfratello when arresting her. The 32-year veteran of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office fell unresponsive and died on the scene.

Wilcox will be sentenced on January 21. She pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in November. Sgt. Sanfratello was a 32-year veteran of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
