Man Seriously Injured After Being Hit by Brightline Train Near Old Dixie Highway

VERO BEACH, Fla. (DDN) – On Sunday night, a man was hit by a Brightline train in Vero Beach and was left with serious injuries.

At approximately 6 p.m., officers from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) received reports of a collision between a Brightline train and a person at the 8th Street railroad crossing, according to the IRCSO.

The IRCSO confirmed that the pedestrian, an adult male, was on the tracks when the incident occurred. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a trauma facility by helicopter.

Officials have stated that the crash took place near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Old Dixie Highway.

The cause of the incident is currently being investigated by deputies and railroad officials.
