A machete attack in Grimes County has led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator, 45-year-old Elpidio “Leo” DeLeon Gonzalez, after a manhunt that concluded near Corpus Christi, confirmed the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office. The assault, which occurred on Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m., left two victims with severe lacerations both of whom needed to be flown to a hospital. The couple was inside a mobile home behind a Citgo gas station off Highway 30 in Shiro when the attack happened, according toKHOU. Gonzalez, identified as the ex-boyfriend of the female victim, reportedly broke into the home and launched the assault with a machete. Following the incident, the man fled the scene but, was apprehended five hours later in Corpus Christi.
Deputies launched an immediate search in the vicinity of SH-30 and Norman in Shiro after the incident, described by officials. The suspect, wearing all black and driving a white Mitsubishi Mirage with black wheels and paper tags, was eventually tracked down by the Texas Department of Public Safety, as reported byABC13.
Motives behind the encounter remain unclear, and the Sheriff’s Office has yet to release detailed information about the events leading up to the attack. For the time being, the focus remains on the recovery of the victims and the legal proceedings that await Gonzalez following his arrest.
