Manhattan Beach Police Tally 33 Crime Reports Including Arrests and Burglaries in Weekly Crime Statistics

According to a document posted on their official website, the Manhattan Beach Police Department has summarized weekly crime statistics from November 14 to November 20. During this time, they recorded 720 calls for service, including 295 dispatched calls and 425 officer-initiated contacts.

The Manhattan Beach Police Department reported that among the noteworthy events, there were eight arrests, sixteen traffic collisions, and 33 crime reports that ranged from assault and auto theft to burglary and vandalism. One assault took place in Patrol Area 1, two auto thefts occurred in Patrol Areas 1 and 3, one residential burglary occurred in Patrol Area 1, four thefts and one act of vandalism occurred in Patrol Area 4, and although there were reports of vehicle burglary and robbery crime categories, there were zero occurrences listed.

On November 15, police were summoned to the Hangar Inn’s parking lot in response to a person who was brandishing a knife. However, a lack of independent witnesses concealed the reality, and the police had to deal with contradictory witness accounts that resulted in the detention of three persons even though no one was hurt. The matter is still being investigated by MBPD investigators. Another incident involved a car parked in the 500 block of Meadows Avenue that was discovered to have bullet holes on November 17. After verifying the existence of the holes, officers searched the area and obtained surveillance footage; the car had been parked there since November 15 and was unoccupied at the time of the incident, which left no one hurt.

The Manhattan Beach Police Department reports that a residential burglary occurred on November 20 when the homeowners of a house on the 1500 block of 8th Street discovered their upstairs bedrooms ransacked between 4:15 and 9:00 p.m. Detectives are currently searching for any surveillance footage that nearby neighbors may have, as the initial report estimates the theft of three $1000 gift cards. On November 18, a commercial burglary occurred at a construction site on Rosecrans Avenue, where suspects broke a padlock to a fenced area and stole tools. Last but not least, a November 12 robbery update stated that suspect Kimberly Nation was arrested on November 18 after being charged with robbery and assault with a deadly weapon by the LA County District Attorney’s Office. The MBPD apprehended her with the help of an outside agency and made the arrest without any problems.

The MBPD also issued crime prevention tips as part of their community outreach, which advise residents to lock their doors securely, not leave their homes unattended, even for short periods of time, install and become familiar with a surveillance system, and ask neighbors to pick up mail while they are away. This encourages vacationing homeowners to notify the MBPD so that officers are aware of vacant homes. The tips also advise avoiding posting vacation plans publicly on social media, securing side gates, and wiring alarm systems to cover second-story access points to prevent residential burglaries.
