Martinez Standoff Ends Peacefully After Man Surrenders to Secret Service and SWAT During Federal Warrant Service

An dramatic confrontation broke out in a Martinez neighborhood on Wednesday night when a guy barricaded himself inside a house while a federal warrant was being served. Around 7 p.m., U.S. Secret Service officers and a SWAT squad arrived at a house on Macalvey Drive, but the individual was not willing to leave, according to KRON4.

The SWAT squad and Martinez Police Department crisis negotiators used what were called “diversionary tactics” in an effort to defuse the situation before speaking with the suspect. After extensive negotiations, officials reportedly said the man ultimately gave in and consented to surrender.

Since Matthew Young, the Secret Service assistant special agent in charge, has kept the information under wraps, the name of the person arrested has not been made public. “To maintain the integrity of our work, the U.S. Secret Service does not confirm or comment on potential criminal investigations,” Young stated, as perKRON4.

The Central Contra Costa County SWAT team and the Secret Service were involved in the operation, albeit there were little specifics available. The man’s failure to come out led to the implementation of tactical measures, which the SF Gateas described beginning at his house in the 100 block of Macalvey Drive.
