Maryland Mother Faces Charges After Shooting Her 13-Year-Old Daughter

A 32-year-old lady was taken into custody by the police for reportedly shooting her adolescent daughter, who is currently in serious condition.

Officers from the Seat Pleasant Police Department responded to a shooting complaint in the 500 block of 69th Place on Monday, September 23, shortly before five o’clock in the evening.

Upon their arrival, they discovered a thirteen-year-old girl who had sustained an upper body gunshot wound. She was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where her condition is critical.

After taking over the case, the Gun Crimes Unit of the Prince George’s County Police Department came to the conclusion that Talecka Brown, the mother of the victim, had shot her daughter in their house.

According to court documents, Brown faces charges related to attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and possession of a firearm.

“It is always tragic when we have acts of violence within our community, but it is heart-wrenching when the perpetrator is supposed to be your protector. I am glad to hear that the victim is recovering at a local hospital, but the emotional trauma will remain for some time.” said Acting Chief of Police Cedric Heyward of Seat Pleasant in a statement.

It was decided to hold Brown without bond.
