Massachusetts chow mein lovers rejoice as Fall River noodle supplier resumes operations

Foodies from Fall River and beyond are rejoicing as the region’s favorite noodle supplier is back in business.

The Oriental Chow Mein Company, located at 42 8th St in Fall River, has been a cornerstone of the local culinary scene since 1937, producing its iconic Hoo-Mee brand chow mein noodles and gravy mix. These noodles are a key ingredient in the region’s famous chow mein sandwich, a beloved dish in southeastern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island.

However, in May, the company began facing a significant disruption that led to the temporary closure of the business and noodles out of stock, causing widespread concern among local restaurants and consumers.

The supply shortage was triggered by a “manufacturing mechanical failure” at the Oriental Chow Mein Company’s facility.

The disruption caused chow mein lovers and area restaurants that rely on Hoo-Mee noodles to either go without or go to a less popular option.

However, Oriental Chow Mein Company is back in operation once again supplying noodles to restaurants and walk-in customers. Shipping is still listed as out of stock so out-of-towners will have a little wait.
