In Superior Court in Salem today, a 53-year-old Massachusetts man pled guilty to the murder of his 80-year-old mother, the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker announced.
The crime occurred on June 11, 2021, when Lynn Police responded to a call and found Katherine Paratore deceased with multiple traumatic injuries.
Before the Hon. William Bloomer, Alfredo Paratore, 53, of Lynn pled guilty to second-degree murder and received a life sentence in state prison with parole eligibility after 25 years. Prosecutor Kate MacDougall, representing the Commonwealth, stated the plea spared the family a prolonged and painful trial. The defendant’s attorney was John Morris, and Mikki DeFeo served as the victim/witness advocate. Family members delivered victim impact statements, hoping the woman would be remembered for her caring and dependable nature.

court documents reveal the defendant called police, reporting he found his mother on the floor, believing her dead. He appeared nervous, unable to recall the last time he spoke with her or who had seen her. Police found the woman’s body inside the doorway against a wall, likely there for some time, without a shirt. Internal organs were observed on a welcome mat nearby. The body had lacerations near the right collarbone and hand, with bruises on both arms, neck, and head. Dentures lay on the floor by her shoulder.
Blood spatter marked the walls, accompanied by dried blood and bloody handprints. Police noted scratches on the defendant’s cheek and ear, with dried blood on his left hand. He admitted to using suboxone 15 minutes prior, and officers administered Narcan as he showed signs of overdosing. He was later transported to Salem Hospital for evaluation.
