Several fire departments reported that a house explosion in West Knox County left a debris field and no injuries.
The large, roughly 10,000-square-foot home was unoccupied when the explosion occurred, and neighbors reported it at around 1 p.m. Rural Metro has been on the scene since responding to a reported explosion in the 1700 block of Blue Water Way in the Choto area off of Northshore Drive. Officials have been battling the fire and plan to stay on site, treating the incident with an estimated 15,000 gallons of water and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby wooded areas, according to WATE News.
The explosion generated “a debris field 100 to 150 yards in all directions,” according to Rural Metro Captain Jeff Bagwell, who also confirmed to WVLT News that nearby homes were not immediately in danger because the well-watered yards served as a barrier.
Numerous emergency agencies, including the Loudon County Fire Department and the Knoxville Fire Department, are on the scene. The public has been advised to exercise caution due to the increased traffic in the affected area, and homeowners have been informed of the disaster. According to WBIR, response teams are prepared to remain at the site overnight to ensure that any flare-ups are quickly contained.
