Maui Community Invited to Voice Opinions on Proposed $14.1M Purchase of Von Tempsky Property in Kula

Residents of Maui will soon have the opportunity to offer feedback on a county property acquisition proposal.For $14.1 million, Maui County is considering buying the 273-acre Von Tempsky property in Kula, which was originally known as Kula Ridge Mauka. More information on the idea will be presented at a future meeting of the Kula Community Association. Maui County has requested input from the community.

Josiah Nishita, Managing Director of the County of Maui, will preside over the meeting, which is scheduled for tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Von Tempsky Community Center on Lower Kula Road. Prior to the Maui County Council Budget, Finance, and Economic Development Committee meeting, residents will have the opportunity to discuss the proposed acquisition during this session.

The vice chair of the council and chair of the BFED committee, Yuki Lei Sugimura, urged locals to take part. In a County of Maui statement, she added, “I encourage the community to weigh in on possible uses of the Von Tempsky property and to please attend the community meeting or the BFED meeting on Thursday, November 21st.” At 9 a.m. on Thursday, the BFED meeting will take place in the Planning Conference Room at the Kalana Pakui Building in Wailuku.
