McAlester resident Nathaniel Dewayne Meashintubby, 41, entered a guilty plea to a felony assault charge. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma said the plea was made in federal court for an event that happened earlier this year.
The allegations stem from a March 10 incident in which Meashintubby was charged with trying to choke a romantic partner. According to the US Attorney’s Office, the incident took place in Pittsburg County on the Choctaw Nation Reservation.
Because both county and tribe jurisdiction were involved, the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police collaborated on the investigation. When Meashintubby entered a guilty plea and was accepted by Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the case moved along swiftly. To aid in sentencing, a report from the presentence investigation has been mandated. Until his sentence, Meashintubby will be held under the supervision of the U.S. Marshals Service. According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Michael E. Robinson, an assistant U.S. attorney, represented the United States in the case.
