Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest two-round mock draft has Detroit Lions selecting WR Ja’Marr Chase & DE Malcolm Koonce
ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. released his latest draft, and this part includes a second round.
Kiper’s predictions for the first 64 picks include two trades and six quarterbacks.
When it comes to the Detroit Lions and their 7th place vote, Kiper lets them stay and picks arguably the best recipient in class at LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase.
“The 2019 Biletnikoff Prize winner led the country this season with 1,780 yards and 20 touchdown catches, and he would immediately be the top Lions recipient on a depth map that included signings from Tyrell Williams and Breshad Perriman,” wrote Kiper. “He’s great at making competitive catches and can break tackles and chase after the catch. He’s a legitimate # 1 fan who is badly needed in Detroit.”
As for Detroit’s second round pick (# 41 overall), Kiper has them take the Buffalo Edge Rusher Malcolm Koonce.
“Trey Flowers did not meet its freelance agent price tag, and the overall Lions Pass rush has disappointed the past two seasons,” Kiper wrote. “Koonce is a natural pass rusher who has had 14 sacks in the last two seasons. He is long and can be disruptive as a situational edge defender. He is underestimated in the run-up to this draft, but I love his bond.”
