Metro Detroit Embraces the Spirit of Giving with Innovative Charity Vending Machines

The holiday season brings an opportunity for generosity in Metro Detroit, with residents able to donate through Giving Machines. Located at Campus Martius through December 8, these machines allow passersby to purchase items such as clothing, hygiene supplies, and livestock to support various charities.

These Giving Machines have been established through the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints’ initiative, which began in 2017. As

Joan Johansson, a volunteer, indicated that this is the first time such a program has been brought to Michigan. Through these machines, donors can contribute anything from a “pair of socks for Pope Francis Center” or sponsor “a community well for our international charity.”

According to the

The Church assures that every penny of the donations is directed towards the participating charities, including local beneficiaries like Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan, Zaman International, and others.

adds that since the Giving Machine program’s inception, donations have surpassed $32 million. And for those who can’t make it to Campus Martius or prefer the safety of remote giving, options for online donations are also available at lighttheworld.org. Not only is Detroit hosting these machines, but two will be placed at Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids from December 12 to January 4, and at Midland Mall staring next Wednesday through December 31, expanding the reach of giving across Michigan.
