Metro Detroit Honors Florine Mark’s Legacy with Grand Estate Sale in Farmington Hills

A variety of apparel, accessories, artwork, and other items that previously belonged to the late Florine Mark are being offered during an estate auction in metro Detroit. According to Deadline Detroit, Mark, who was well-known for her charitable endeavors and served as the president and CEO of Weight Watchers Group, died in October 2023 at the age of 90. Le Shoppe Estate Sales is in charge of the sale, which started yesterday and is happening in her Farmington Hills residence.

According to Deadline Detroit, the objects for offer include autographed statues by George Segal, a Victor Vasarely lithograph, and serigraphs by Mexican painter Rufino Tamayo. Some of the items were originally on display at the Weight Watchers corporate office.

The estate auction has been compared to a mashup of famous department stores, offering a wide range of items from luxury clothing to a whole set of kitchenware appropriate for a restaurant. Deborah Slobin of Le Shoppe Estate Sales stated in an interview with FOX 2 that “a very large store—Macy’s and Nordstroms combined for sure, absolutely.”

Due to the high volume of purchasers and spectators, the estate sale has created a hectic and competitive environment. In an attempt to buy artifacts from Mark’s collection, some attendees started to line up early on the first day, with some arriving before sunrise. Attendees were clearly excited, as Valeria Johnson told FOX 2 Detroit, “Oh my goodness, it’s amazing and she was an amazing woman.”

According to reports, museums and vintage stores have expressed interest in the objects for sale. Some of the clothes will be part of a special show at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, according to the Detroit Free Press. Mark is renowned for her rarely repeated ensembles, and her rich accessories and varied, colorful clothes provide a window into a unique fashion era.
