Metro Detroit student-run nonprofit raises thousands for Southeast Michigan charities

(CBS DETROIT) A Southeast Michigan nonprofit received an incredible six-figure donation from high school students in Metro Detroit.

On Sunday, the children celebrated that accomplishment with a fundraiser and competition in Livonia. Family and friends flocked to the Vista Tech Center’s auditorium to congratulate the members of the student-run charity organization Key2Finesse.

“I was a really bashful kid in middle school. I think I initially joined the program to improve my speaking abilities and, eventually, myself before volunteering. “I fell in love with the organization,” Key2Finesse executive board member Sanjith Sambath remarked.

As they collaborate to generate money for charity, these teenagers not only improve their public speaking abilities but also experience personal development.

Prisha Shah, an executive board member of Key2Finesse, stated, “I realized that not only do I want to have this confidence, but I want to have the ability to make a difference with it.”

Variety, the Children’s Charity of Detroit, is this year’s selected charity. They assist underprivileged children in numerous ways, including by giving them brand-new bicycles.

“It’s incredible to see the happiness on their faces when they get their first bike and can ride it around the baseball park. And you can truly see how different people value things differently,” stated Ansh Shah, Key2Finesse’s senior executive lead.

Members of Key2Finesse can raise money by teaching people how to solve a Rubik’s cube or doing a magic show.

“Find your place, find where you are able to be who you truly are, and give back to this world,” Shah advised.

Following the speech competition on Sunday, there was an awards ceremony, which culminated in a significant announcement. The nonprofit organization raised almost $146,000 for Variety this year.

“Knowing that those contributions will directly benefit local kids and enable them to have a limb or be mobile, receive Christmas aid, or receive rehabilitation has been an amazing experience. Michelle Murphy, executive director of Variety, the Children’s Charity of Detroit, stated, “It’s invaluable.”

And it’s all because of Key2Finesse’s future leaders.

Key2Finesse has raised roughly $600,000 for charity since its establishment in 2016.
